ABOUT
Bacterial diseases caused by phytoplasma are usually transmitted through insects. Symptoms include abnormal floral organ development, smaller leaves, and their yellowing, and bushy appearance of plant organs called witches’ brooms.
How to treat?
- Biological
If possible remove and destroy the infected plant. Burn it or toss it into the garbage. Do not compost.
- Disease prevention
Use resistant species and cultivars as well as healthy, certified seeds and seedlings.
Eliminate potential disease carriers (e.g. leafhoppers).
Disinfect tools, infected flower pots, and hands to avoid disease transmission.
