ABOUT
Sooty mold is a fungal disease. It typically grows on surfaces covered in honeydew produced by insects. The infected plant has its twigs, branches, or leaves covered in characteristic black soot.
How to treat?
- Biological
Wipe or wash affected parts of the plant with water and horticultural soap.
Eliminate the reason for mold growing - usually honeydew produced by sucking insects.
Introduce natural enemies of occurring pests. Sooty mold is associated with sucking pests (e.g. aphids), which produce honeydew.
Apply ecological products for plant protection (e.g. neem oil).
- Disease prevention
Inspect new plants for signs of an infestation.
Encourage the presence of natural enemies (honeydew-producing insects).
