Thrips

CLASSIFICATION
Animalia, Insecta
ABOUT
Thrips are small sap-sucking pests, which are puncturing the surface of a plant causing leaves to develop streaks or turn brown or silvery.
How to treat?
Biological
Remove pests mechanically. Rub the pests off, or remove infested parts.
Apply ecological products for plant protection (e.g. sticky cards, essential oils, horticultural oil).
Introduce natural enemies - predators, parasites, or diseases (e.g. predatory mites such as Amblyseius cucumeris, Amblyseius swirskii and Stratiolaelaps scimitus).
Chemical
If necessary, apply insecticide containing lambda-Cyhalothrin (GHS06: Toxic, GHS07: Harmful, GHS09: Environmental hazard) (on ornamentals and some field crops).
Disease prevention
Encourage the presence of natural enemies (e.g. green lacewings, minute pirate bugs, and parasitic wasps).
Quarantine new plants.
