Water excess or uneven watering
overwatering
CLASSIFICATION
Abiotic, water-related issue
ABOUT
Water excess and uneven watering are abiotic disorders caused by inadequate watering. Water excess may lead to rotting of the roots due to lack of oxygen, and higher susceptibility to infection. Symptoms of over-watering include stunted growth, yellow and brown leaves, wilting and higher susceptibility to leaf burn.
How to treat?
- Biological
Remove and discard moldy soil or replant the plant into fresh soil.
Remove your plant from the pot and inspect the roots. Prune and discard rotten roots (brown, mushy, stinky).
Select a flower pot with the appropriate size and material.
Temporarily move the plant to a more shady place (roots might be damaged and do not manage to supply the plant with water).
- Disease prevention
Improve soil drainage (e.g. by adding compost to the soil or rocks to the bottom of the pot). Ensure having drainage holes at the bottom of the pot.
